History of the Fundación Casa de los Tres Mundos
1987
The Foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos is founded by the Austrian actor and author Dietmar Schönherr and the Nicaraguan poet, priest and politician Ernesto Cardenal.
1990
Still during the restoration of the old building Casa de los Leones, Wolfgang Hunecke (artist from Bonn, Germany) brings a graphical press studio to the Casa and the graphic workshop and the ateliers of the artist are initiated by him and Fernando López (actual cultural director of the Foundation).
Apart from that, first painting workshops for children from Granada are organized and later are the origin of the painting school.
1992
The brass ensemble "Embrassy" visits the Casa for the first time and gives music classes - the Music School is founded.
In the same year the Foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos officially opens its doors as an international cultural center.
1995
The refurbishment of the Municipal Archive is completed. Today it's freely open and accessible for everybody.
1999
After the hurricane Mitch in the year 1998, the rural development project "Malacatoya" is initiated. In the year 2002 all the 131 houses built on a flood protected area are finished.
They are followed by a school, the Communal Center, the Health-Center and the Park of Sculptures which support the area in its independence and cultural and social development.
Projects like the beekeeping, the eco-paper manufacture and the banana-plantation are supposed to reinforce the rural community in means of economy and infrastructure.
2003
In June 2003 Pepe Prego and his wife Carla Acevedo found the Theater School.
2005
The IEI (Instituto de Estudio Interdisciplinarios) - the research institute of the Casa de los Tres Mundos, publishes its first study.
The free and communal Radio Volcán is founded and is on air for the first time in 2006.
2006
The project Música en los Barrios, which is already supported by Pan y Arte as a main suspender since 2000, becomes part of the Foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos.
2008
The project LOCREO, formerly financed by Finland, becomes part of the Foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos as LOCREO - "La Imagen"(The picture). It offers free classes for children in music, theatre and art in the poorer districts of Granada and Malacatoya.
