New houses in Los Ángeles, MalacatoyaIn October 1998, Hurricane "Mitch" raged through Central America causing thousands of deaths and great material damage. The entire area of "Malacatoya", an expansive rural community in the department of Granada, was flooded up to five feet for six days. In August 1999 the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos initiated the rural development project "Los Angeles/Malacatoya", aiming to offer help to the population impaired by the disaster along the river Malacatoya.
In April 2007 a salesoriented agricultural production in the rural development project Malacatoya - Los Angeles started with the raising of a banana-plantation. Now, one year later, the farmers could bring in the first harvest successfully and full of pride.
With the introduction of an ecological paper mill in the community of Los Angeles/Malacatoya the foundation "Casa de los Tres Mundos" strives to create independent, regular and continuous work for 20 people in an area of high and season-dependent unemployment.

The beekeeping project was initiated with the goal of creating jobs in Malacatoya. For ten families in the region, this project represents the first steps toward economic independence.
